Our motto is where music matters and makes a difference. And it matters to us deeply that our students learn and experience what that means on multiple levels. We also desire that we as an academy can make a difference in the community. Yesterday a handful of our fine students volunteered to take the time out of their day to go with us to The Colonial Inn Retirement Community to bring some holiday carols through instrumental and vocal music.
The students did so well and I believe that both our students and the residents had a great time. I know we did! We think that the elderly are just one of the people groups in the community that we should seek to serve through music and art, and we hope to be able to make this a regular event every season (not just the holiday season). We have at least a few such trips to other retirement homes scheduled for this holiday season and will certainly make more in the Spring when we approach our Spring Presentation.
If you would like to get involved, just let us know. Maybe you know of a few locations where the people could use some music? Thanks so much to the parents who volunteered to bring their children. And maybe next time we can make a difference with visual art as well, perhaps our art students could create some gifts of art we could bring to share.
See you all tomorrow!
