Arts Walk has been a part of what we do as an academy since the very beginning!
And we love Arts Walk and look forward to it every year! We have played music in a handful of different settings and venues since the beginning as an organization, but without a doubt, our favorite setting is Rhythm’s Coffee. The thing I love about Rhythm’s Coffee is that while it may not be big, it is significant. They love music. They love local music. They support local music. They have a stage and they make as much room as they can for their musicians, people crowd into the place and around the place to hear what’s going on and buy coffee and drinks to support their business. And every time I have ever been there, walked by, or driven by—they’ve got music going on—that is so important! We are all about all of those things. Every local community needs a business like Rhythms!
One of the things that I love about Rhythm’s is the coffee house vibe in the first place. It’s an incredibly important part of learning to be a musician, learning how to play in a coffeehouse. That means first of all being flexible and realizing you may have to play on a paired down drum kit, it may mean not having an amp or being able to plug in directly, it may mean needing to Go acoustic completely. For vocalists, it definitely means learning how to sing without a track and with live instruments or completely acapella. It means changing the space and the setup in which we play together as groups. All these things are important, fun, and a beautiful part of making music at Rhythms anytime, and especially for Arts Walk (but really true in general of must coffeehouse/café’, and evening house playing—like laying at someone’s evening get together or party a their house. Thank you Rhythms, thank you students and family and our awesome team and faculty members, here’s to many many more!
