Multitasking & Practicing

Not everybody appreciates multitasking, some people have their gripes against it and would complain that perhaps you work less effectively at one or all of the tasks when you’re multitasking. I would disagree. I think that depends on how you go about multitasking.

Especially for our adult students, and really effective for those that play a brass instrument which is very physical and it’s important to rest as a part of the process, multitasking can actually be a very effective way of learning to work efficiently on your instrument and resting appropriately.

For example, I just spent the better part of the last hour fielding emails, interacting with my web designer, a few phone calls, and finishing up some notes for an important presentation this weekend. All the while accomplishing page, one of a very important trumpet routine. I got adequate rest in between each portion and accomplished a lot of tasks on my plate for the day.

Practicing music as an adult is possible and you can still do it while being effective and even doing other work well.
