Drums and Elementary Music

TIA is your resource for learning the drums in the Olympia, Lacey, and Tumwater area. We offer drum instruction in at least two different formats, but all of our drum students learn the same essentials, fundamentals, understanding how to read, interpret, count, and feel rhythms. If you simply want to learn to create groove, lay down a steady beat, or rock, we can do that. But we will also prepare you for the wonder and depth that the music has to offer way beyond the basics.

In our Drum Lab, one of our most popular group classes, students learn the fundamentals of drumming starting on buckets, which are an affordable and easy way to get started (all you need is a bucket, a pair of sticks, and a drum pad). Drumming in a group is a lot of fun and it’s a great way to make friends!

In Private Drum Lessons many of our students will also start either on a bucket or a snare drum in the beginning, again focusing on the fundamentals of sticking, bounce, control, and basic rhythms, but many will eventually move to the drum set where they will begin to learn how to create music with all four limbs at once.
