TIA is your go to source for learning wind instruments in the greater South Puget Sound, Olympia, Lacey, and Tumwater area. Want to play the trumpet, saxophone, clarinet, flute, or trombone? Give us a call. If you already play and are looking to hone your skills and develop your sound and musical abilities, SD has over twenty years as an educator and has worked with trumpet players, trombonists, clarinet and flute players, euphonium, and even wind synthesizers.
At TIA we teach winds in at least two different delivery methods: private lessons and group classes.
Private Lessons

In private lessons students are one-on-one with SD in a mentor model kind of situation. These lessons are fun, casual, interactive, and paced to the needs of the student. Most of our students will work out of a curriculum each week in lessons appropriate to where they are, whether beginner, intermediate, and maybe even advanced. SD will also work with students on learning new repertoire regularly. We have a different theme every semester so students that choose to will have exposure to and an opportunity to learn a variety of repertoire and genre.
Most of our private students take part regularly in presentation opportunities for our students to perform music in front of their peers and the community every semester. We have fun events like Celebration of Scales, Festival, and we are also involved in Arts Walk and other community music making (at the Olympia Senior Center and area retirement homes).
All of our private students will also engage in serious music theory learning to include understanding chords, scales, and rhythmic interpretation in a way that is fun, accessible, and makes music even more fun and beautiful.
The purpose behind private lessons at TIA is for you to have regular one-on-one personalized instruction, just for you, according to your needs. Private lessons in piano are just $170 monthly for an hour lesson (weekly), or $90 for a half hour (weekly).
Group Classes

Making music in a group is a lot of fun. In our small group piano classes students learn together with peers, this can be a great way to learn for students that like to be around others. It can also be a healthy motivator to see and hear the growth of your peers. Students work together through a curriculum each week appropriate to where they are, whether beginner, intermediate, and maybe even advanced. Most classes begin playing music together even in multiple parts, from early on.
Most of our group students also take part regularly in presentation opportunities, performing music in front of their peers and the community every semester. Many will also engage in our events like Celebration of Scales and even Arts Walk and other community music making.
All of our group students will also engage in serious music theory learning to include understanding chords, scales, and rhythmic interpretation in a way that is fun, accessible, and makes music even more fun and beautiful. Group classes also enable us to offer a lower tuition price point for an affordable option. Piano labs are just $60 monthly. We generally offer new classes each semester.
