Important Dates
- Summer Semester: July 5th-August 30th
- *TIA Summer Presentation: August 24th (7:30PM) or August 28 (afternoon)
We will be sending out a survey to see which dates work best for folks
- End of Summer Break: August 31 – September 7, 2021
There will be classes, lessons, or music therapy at this time. These breaks are factored into our tuition plans.
- *Alternate Date for our Postponed Spring Presentation: July 16 at 7PM
Were you scheduled to play at the presentation last weekend that was postponed? We will be sending out a survey, but we are hoping to do it July 16 (Friday evening) at 7PM.
*All these events are tentative and are not necessarily TIA-wide events, but rather opportunities for students that are ready for them (these are unique community music making events).
Lesson Rates
All classes and lessons are tuition based. Tuition is to be paid every month as long as a student is enrolled, even if they miss a class or lesson. Please plan accordingly. Make-up class visits are encouraged when available and applicable, but we can by no means guarantee them if missed on the student end. If we as teachers miss a class or lesson, we will either make it up or apply a credit to your account.
Payment Policy
Private Lessons, just like our classes, are tuition based. Tuition is based on budget needs for the academy (which is a non-profit). Most months will have four lessons every month, some will have five depending on the length of the month. Months containing Thanksgiving break, winter break, spring break and Memorial Day, and summer break may only have less as well. Tuition is based on the total number of lessons offered annually, so the monthly installment amount remains the same.
There are no refunds for student-missed classes. Makeup lessons are strongly encouraged. We will work with you as best we are able to offer makeup lessons as our teachers and schedule allow. Please plan accordingly.
There is no contract, you may disenroll at any time, but please be aware that there are no refunds for remaining weeks of a month. In other words, if you choose to disenroll, we recommend you finish out the month. But we do ask that you give us as much notice as possible, so we can fill the slot. We often have a waitlist for most of our teachers and classes.
For Group Classes
Please note that classes are ongoing and many of our classes have been together for years. When you sign up for a class, plan and expect to be there through the semester and pay every month, even if you miss. Unfortunately, travel, vacation, and sickness do not change the fact that our teachers prepare, show up, and teach passionately and give their all every week. Make-up class visits are encouraged when available and applicable, but please plan accordingly. If you must disenroll from a class or do not intend to continue in the coming semester, please let us know so we can plan accordingly.
For Lessons
For lessons, we prefer tuition be paid each month for the entire month, but we understand if you need to pay weekly. If you pay weekly, please pay each week on the day of your lesson. You may pay by cash, check, or PayPal (there is a $2.50 fee for PayPal payments).
Late Fee
Please be mindful that our teachers and classes are most often booked back to back. If you arrive late, we will take you when you get there if possible, but this will mean the lesson is cut short.
Maintaining Your Time-slot
To maintain a timeslot, you must agree to and pay weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly according to the frequency of your lessons. Frequencies of lessons are up to you and can be arranged with us according to your needs. If you don’t stay current on payments, we cannot guarantee your slot and if you need to re-enroll there will be a $10 re-enrollment fee.
Canceling, Rescheduling, and No Shows
If you need to cancel or reschedule a lesson for any reason other than an emergency, you will need to contact your teacher no later than 9am on your scheduled day and we will do all we can to schedule a makeup. If your teacher misses a lesson (for reasons other than an emergency) without proper notice, you will be granted one free lesson. Due to scheduling and the number of students, tardiness will result in a shortened lesson time with full payment.
Sick Policy
If your student is ill, contagious, or has had a fever in the last 24 hours, we ask for the well-being of our teachers, our families, and for the rest of our students and their families that you stay home. Most of our teachers have Skype or FaceTime lessons available as an alternative if you are well enough for a lesson, but not to come to the studio.
We love all of our students and their families, and it is for this reason that this is so important. We can’t do what we do if we are sick. And we know how difficult it is to raise a family, work, go to school, and be sick. So we ask that you respect this policy. If need be, TIA faculty may ask you to leave if they are concerned about the well-being of themselves or the students due to your sickness. If you are better later in a week and we have an appropriate alternate class/open seat, you are welcome to sit in.
Intellectual Content
In our desire to be the musicians we are called to be, we realize that our teaching must follow out of the same desire. That said, there are some important matters regarding what songs “say” that sometimes must be addressed. The intellectual content of music can be incredibly significant and have far-reaching in impact, even if it seems insignificant on the surface. We will offer students at least a starting point, a framework from which to analyze intellectual content. As the teachers, we personally will analyze the intellectual content of every song a student brings (original or cover), and therefore need the music at least a week or two prior to when they would like to begin working on it so that we can evaluate it. If for any reason we find that a song must be either altered by way of lyrics, or rejected, we will speak directly first to all parents of students under the age of 18.
Inclement Weather
It is not often that we have inclement weather that would prohibit people from getting to class or lessons, but it is a possibility. If ever we encounter severe wind and thunderstorms, snow, etc. that would keep you from getting to and from the studio safely, or it would keep us from doing so, cancellations are certainly warranted and understandable. If you cannot make your lesson or class in such a situation, please text (360) 688-9911 if during studio hours (12:30-7PM) or leave a voicemail. Please note that we do not generally answer the phones during lessons or classes.
