TIA is fortunate to have not just one but TWO of our very own board certified Music Therapists right here in Olympia. Music therapy directly serves our mission as a non-profit, which includes helping people in need of community, hope, and freedom from addictions, pain, and other serious needs through music.
Music therapy is a unique, research proven, effective, and beautiful therapeutic treatment that meets real needs in people. For more details on music therapy and what it has done and can do, see some of the links below. Sarah looks forward to working with south sound individuals and families to develop personalized plans to meet their emotional, mental health, and other goals.
Sarah Augustine is a licensed, certified, and experienced music therapist. Born and raised in Greenville, Ohio, Sarah completed her undergraduate studies at The College of Wooster and her music therapy internship at Big Bend Hospice in Tallahassee, FL. After her internship Sarah began full time work as a music therapist at a local psychiatric inpatient but is now committed to TIA where she serves as both an MT and a faculty member (she is also a highly capable and trained musician).
Sam moved to the PNW from Lewistown, Pennsylvania, where she began studying piano at 7 years old and fell in love with singing in choirs as well and has participated as a member in various choirs, even traveling abroad.
Sam holds a Bachelors of Music in Music Therapy from Elizabethtown College and is a Board Certified Music Therapist. Sam also picked up the guitar in college and loves playing to accompany her own and others singing to bring people together, which is so awesome—Sam gets the communal nature of music which is crucial to why we do what we do and teach the way we do!
As a music therapist, Sam has experience with adult psychiatric clients, older adults, and adults and children with developmental disabilities. Sam also loves volunteering on the worship team at her church as a vocalist and guitarist. She also loves cats, working with infants, chai lattes, being in nature, and baking.
