At the academy, one of our core values is people. We also believe that music is more than mere commodity, but a gift that exists for the sake of community. What does that mean? It means that we believe that while there is nothing inherently wrong with the sale of music recordings, concert tickets, and the like, that live and recorded music should also be made as gifts for the people of the community, especially when it can serve a need.
The holidays are a special time for many. They can also be a tragically sad and depressing time for many, especially the elderly of our community that may be alone, have lost loved ones, and maybe don’t have the opportunity to experience much of the holiday tradition the rest of us do. It has been wonderful to be able to bring many of our groups and individual students to The Olympia Senior Center and The Colonial Inn this season. And we still have one more visit planned this week.
In the spring we will once again visit seniors in the Olympia area, and we are looking for more people to visit and share music with. If you can think of or are a part of a local senior center, group of shut ins, hospital, or other group that might have a need for music to celebrate with, dance to, use cry to—we would love to be here to serve you. Merry Christmas from The Tuned In Academy!
I hope you enjoy some of these pictures of our students doing what they do so well, bringing the gift of music to others.
