Emilie took piano lessons as a kid because her parents thought it was important- her mom had had traditional lessons, but her dad had been a keyboardist in a 60s rock band. Emilie gives them 100% of the credit for her success, because they didn’t let her quit until I had 4 years and a solid foundation! When she did ask to quit lessons at 12, her dad made the promise that he’d buy her whatever sheet music she wanted to keep her playing even if she wasn’t in lessons (smart guy!). She went back to lessons as teen because she wanted to play in the high school jazz band, which was where she really grew up as a pianist. Emilie started teaching her first student in 1994, as a senior in high school, so it’s been 30 years of teaching!
